We Can Get Out of Here

by Jake Lewis

1.
I was going down the road Getting tired and feeling all alone And you never came to mind I must've had The sun in my eyes We rubbed shoulders through our friends Never saw them as a means to an end But when they fell out of our sight That June night Held such a bright light We laid down under the moon And I'll admit That I made the first move But you can't say you didn't try I can't deny Those beautiful sad eyes I didn't have a clue What happened The night when I saw you But when the time was right I turned And there in a new light I saw your face And the move your lips made When I touched your hair I felt the whole world stare And in the moment it felt right And it still does till this night When we finally let go We were home No reason to roam You're not alone You're not alone We watched the stars disappear And wondered if We both had the same fears You had yours and I had mine We let 'em go And float away at the same time

Grand Array 02:48
At home all alone No tone to the phone No one really knows me at all Some time it may take We all make mistakes Its alright if you let them fall If we run and we ride We might make the grand array It's all meant to be If we work and never play Don't say hurray I've got more to do today Come share the road But don't run me over There's enough for the both of us It all comes around If it goes around Take your bow While you've got the crowd If we run and we ride We might make the grand array It's all meant to be If we work and never play Can't take a break I've got more to do today
3.
Other Lovers 03:46
Marry me my May I wont leave you in the dark There's some other lovers You should know Have tried to play your part Though they failed in vain I pray the same Won't ever come of you Let's go back in time And rewind to the start It pains me to dig em up From the bottom of my heart But May my dear What got us here Is bound to see us through Susan she was all so mean And fighting all the time I should of known When I saw Sue hold That gun up to my eye That my fate was pain I'd go insane Or pray for a heart attack With Jenny there was something That always left me in a clouds She promised me her love But always played the girls around When that bill went through She went with Sue And didn't bother coming back Lonely is only a state of mind Maybe I'll find mine this time Sarah was always going out She'd come home late at night Hung over from another Lover she'd done right I'd lay alone for hours Only me to ease myself Amy on the other hand Was never close enough Push her off or hold her down But she was just to tough Eventually I had to leave For the sake of my own health Lonely is only a state of mind Maybe I'll find mine this time Mary me my May I'll love you for awhile But if you try to break my heart I'll try to crack a smile While I place you with the other Lovers on the bottom shelf

Down and Had 02:43
Don't leave me here I'm afraid of myself Don't leave me alone Up on this shelf With dusty old movies And broken sunglasses If I've got no use Then scatter my ashes I'm tired I'm worn I was bored so I left New York I'm young I'm sad I've never been so alone and mad Where did you go I don't know the way It's so dark in here I'm lost out in space My head is a nightmare I've lost track of time Will you be waiting On down the line I'm tired I'm worn I was bored so I left New York I'm young I'm sad I've never been so down and had You were right and I was wrong I pushed my luck and now you're gone
5.
Goodnight love Goodnight love Of mine Lift your heart Leave your mind Behind Fall in love With the darkened Sky See the world when you close Your eyes Go any place you can escape Tonight Drift into space I'll keep you safe Tonight We can get out of here Find away to disappear In time We can go any place We can escape Tonight

about

About a month ago (June 21st roughly) I sat down in my kitchen with an old 2 channel tape machine and recorded Down and Had. I had written the song just a couple days before, following the sudden loss of my younger brother in a car accident. A couple nights after that Macy K and I recorded We Can Get Out of Here and You're Not Alone with Daniel Kollars in his home up on Jacks Mountain. The final two songs, Grand Array and Other Lovers, were recorded with David Sheads in his home near Little Round Top. This album was recorded by me and my friends, free of charge, and so we're going to keep it that way.
